More Than Just Luck
My first experience as a wildlife photographer, and I have to say, I have so much respect for people who do this as a professionally
I used to think it was easy, you just go there, wait, and take the pictures. But actually, “go there and wait there” is so much bigger than that!
First, you have to be brave enough to go there because the journey is not always easy. 😂 Trust me, there are so many unexpected challenges during a game drive.
Then comes the waiting part, which is obviously the hardest. Don’t expect to get the shot you want, even if you wait for hours or days. You always have to remember: you don’t come to the animals, the nature comes to you. You have to stay calm, patient, focused, and almost meditative.
Some people say a great wildlife photo is just luck. I used to think the same. But if you weren’t there, weren’t ready, weren’t focused, or hadn’t put in the effort, you could easily miss that one-second opportunity after waiting for hours.
To get these photos, I had to run around after these vervet monkeys for a while. 😂 They weren’t looking at me at first, they were looking somewhere else. All I could do was try to entertain them and get their attention. Honestly, I don’t know who was the monkey here. 😂 As a beginner, I think nature should have given me a sloth first, not these super hyper creatures!
They’re wild animals, not humans or pets, so there’s absolutely no way to control them. All you can do is pray to God or whoever you worship 😂 and hope for that perfect moment.
And honestly, these photos were chosen from hundreds of shots because they were just way too fast. 😂📸🐒 Not too bad for a beginner like me!
Some moments I captured in burst mode when I had no idea what the monkeys would do next. 😂 I just kept holding down the shutter button
